So when I was installing my cpu it made a sound like it was scraping across the pins... is this normal.

If it's an LGA type processor, probably since a tale tale sign one has been installed are markings on the pads.

If it's a PGA type processor... I'd check the pins.

LGA Proc so it is a normal sound...
