For RAM I'm total clueless. Does it make a difference if split 4x4GB or 2x8GB? I'll be running Windows 7 and using this primarily for gaming.

For my processor I'm pretty locked into getting an Intel i5 2500k processor.

Any suggestions would help and is greatly appreciated. Here's my rig so far.

Mobo
Asus P8Z77-V LE Socket 1155 Intel Z77

Video Card
Asus ENGTX580 DCII/2DIS/1536MD5

Hard Drive
OCZ (VTX4-25SAT3-128G) Vertex 4 2.5" 128GB SATA3 6GB/s Solid State Drive

Power Supply
Corsair Gaming Series 800W 80PLUS Certified Power Supply

Can't wait to get this beast up and running to play Diablo 3. Got my pre-order Woohoo!

Replace the OCZ drive with IBM, you will not have to have the headaches and/or early replacement OCZ will give you. IBM will last longer.

You only need 8GB of RAM for a gaming machine. Purchase 2 sticks of 4GB = 8GB [you may see this as 4x2, but read carefully what it says, newegg.com has pictures to let you know you will be getting 2 sticks of RAM, not 4 sticks of 2GB each.

It is better to populate only 2 of the sockets on the motherboard, less overhead. Read the manual to make sure you put them in the proper place.

Also, many motherboard manufacturers have approved brands and types of memory. Go to their web site and get what is suggested.

I think I will be going with G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB.

Is OCZ known for crapping out?

Isn't IBM aimed more for servers?

OCZ usually does better with system memory, however, they are not my first choice, or second, or third ... You get the picture.

NOTE:

Motherboard manufacturers have long lists of compatible memory. Note that not every stick of memory will be tested, however, if you find a company that is on the list, and complies with standards and requirements [single sided, double sided, voltages, and etc.] another untested stick of memory will work, if it fits tested criteria of a like stick of tested memory.

So, check motherboard manufacturers memory compatibility tables.

Sorry, 1:30 a.m. here.

No, IBM has drives aimed at industry as well as consumer, especially SSD. In the past 10 years there have been company mergers and buy-outs in the industry that can create some misunderstanding among some consumers.

I thought IBM kicked the bucket with storage and sold their division to Hitachi.

EDIT: Oh wait, nevermind. Except Newegg only has HDDs from them, and they all look like enterprise/server class.

Click on the Detail tab, it says, "Used For Consumer"

Uh, that's not IBM. That's Intel.

Thank you very much.

Sometimes I have a memory lapse, and what I mean to say does not get to my fingers to type.

Sorry about the confusion, and, thank you for the correction.
