Not sure what this problem is. I've built about 4 desktop PC's in the past and never ran into this before. Got all components in the PC. 2 DVD drives, video card, sound board, ASUS MB, HD, etc. I believe I've got everything wired correctly but....................?
When I push the power button, all the fans turn for just a couple seconds and then spin down. The PC will not boot. Tried turning the Power-On plug around thinking I had it backwards or something but nothing still.
Brand new 500 watt power supply.
Any suggestions?

Does it beep at you?

And this is a legitimate question, because it's used for POST results.

Nope, no beep or anything. All the case fans and the vid card fan turn for about 3 seconds and that's it. Even if I hold the switch in, the fans stop.

I should back up further, do you have a piezo speaker attached to the motherboard? Looks like one of these: http://www.clearpc.ca/catalog/images/speaker.JPG

If you do and it didn't beep at you, check the connections. In particular the video card power plug and the CPU 12V plug. And what's the make and model of the power supply?

The best I could supply you internet wise for more info is this: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000312.htm

Yes. I put in that little piezo speaker but it doesn't beep. Doesn't run long enough to post. The fans only turn for a couple of seconds. I'll try all the connections internally again but everything looks ok.

So if it doesn't POST, then there are three things here:
  • Power supply isn't working correctly. This is probably the quickest to replace and check.
  • Motherboard isn't working correctly
  • CPU isn't working correctly. Should be the last thing to consider, since new DoA processors, to me, are unheard of.

Ok, thank you very much LatiosXT. Will check my power supply and MB after I unplug everything and re-plug back in. Many thanks again.
Mike.
