So my Desktop is an older Sony Viao, which was bought sometime around 2004.

here is the PDF of the marketing specifications from Sony's website

here are my CPU-Z Validator Results

what is not shown in the marketing specifications and is briefly mentioned in the CPU validator is the motherboard information. My motherboard is a PTGD2-VX, it uses an Intel i915P/915G Chipset with a PCI Express x16 expansion slot. it also uses DDR RAM which is currently using 1GB.

now ive done some research on this motherboard via google.. it doesnt show up on the manufacturers website and attempts to find a BIOS update have been unsuccessful.. ive also run into a forum post here on this site with a person who has the exact same CPU+Mobo pair posting about upgrading his CPU, lots of responses from members of this site told him/her that the motherboard in question has little to no options in the ways of upgrading, especially for multiple cores..

ive been thinking about upgrading my board, but money is tight and id probably have to build as i go, so id like a motherboard that will be safe to use with the current CPU, power supply, graphics card, and all my drives.. i realize that a new MB will probably force me to buy new RAM which i would be in the market for as well.

im not much of an online shopper, so i would prefer in store purchases at Best Buy or COMP USA.

if its more realistic to just build a PC from scratch instead of working around an already aging PC, i wouldnt be offended by a suggestion to just start browsing for a fresh build.

You are not going to be able to do much with your computer.

I suggest you purchase a used one somewhere.

Here are a few suggestions on ebay.com price range from $30 to $100. The prices are for newly listed, but you can change it from lowest to highest price:

Good luck.
