Greetings!

Okay, so I just wiped my HDD and I'm reinstalling Windows 7 64.

The OS is up and running, done all the windows updates, just installed Firefox...

And I noticed that the middle-button on my mouse (a Logitech G500) isn;t working the way it used to. Before, when I would middle click, say, a link in Firefox, it would open that link in a new tab.

Now, no matter what I'm doing, when I middle-click, it acts as if I just hit alt-tab and it brings another open program to the front.

It never did this before my most recent reinstall, ever (I do this every six months or so).

Any suggestions? I've looked everywhere I can think of to find an option to control the behavior of middle-clicking, without success...

Thanks!

See if installing Logitech's SetPoint software will fix this.

Should have mentioned that I'd done that as well...

Even if you changed the behavior of the button?

It was originally set as "generic button", but I changed it to "middle button", and the behavior did not change...

I think at this point, the mouse is kaput. But you can also see if this is an issue elsewhere.

I imagine its possible that it just suddenly developed an issue, but literally it was working fine a couple of hours ago before I did the reinstall...

Actually herp derp. Plug the mouse into another computer. If it behaves fine, there's something wrong with your computer.

Well, I don't happen to have multiple computers, but I did try another mouse, and it's doing the same thing...

Can anyone think of any other apps that use the middle mouse button aside from Firefox? I use it to click links and open the page in a new tab, and to "rapid scroll"... I don't know what it's actually called, but you click the middle mouse button on the web page, and you can scroll really fast using the mouse, then you have to middle-click again to turn it off...

But if I could try something else I could see if it's a firefox problem or something else. I just can;t think of any other programs that use it...

Then something's wrong with the computer. Probably Windows.

That's what I figured originally, which is why I came here to ask for help... *grin*

My experience may be slight differently but I did an upgrade from Windows 7 Prof to 64 bit and the right-click function of my mouse isn't working. I did quite a few things but what solved it was when I removed the mouse in device manager and re-boot.

tried that too, and it didn't work.

Moot point now, though; I've since reformatted and reinstalled and the problem didn't reappear...
