Hey everyone,

I am posting to see how my first big budget build compares. I have been wanting to completely revamp my whole setup as a present for myself and now is the time! Budget is 3500.00 for everything and I am looking at playing SWTOR, BF3 etc. on the highest graphic settings with the most FPS along with keeping the capability to run Physx. This is like a birthday present to myself.

I would not buy anything right now. There are new x79 mobos to be released. If all you are doing is gaming, then switch to 1155 socket with an Ivy Bridge CPU. Nvidia's flagship GTX690 has not been released yet for this year. There is a rumor going around that Nvidia might release another GPU called the GTX685. The company has not confirmed this and most websites claiming to have information are fake. Sometime around August is a good time to start buying hardware.

Wish I had your budget! To me a budget build is sub $1000, but good for you.

The rumored GTX685 (GK110) and GTX690 (x2 GK104) have not been released yet.

The GTX 680 is the flagship GPU, NVIDIA even says though themselves: http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articl ... x-680-gpu/ (go do a search for flagship)

I would also ditch the GTX 580s for GTX 680s.

I looked at some rumored information a while back that had not been confirmed by Nvidia. It sounded kind of legit since it wasn’t a blog or random website. I was hoping that Nvidia might actually create a better GPU later this year. After giving it a brief search again today, I think the data being thrown around the internet about a GTX685 (GK110) is fake. Dammit! :( Sorry to have confused you. lol I myself was waiting to build another desktop rig. The best advice I can give is to plan it out well before buying hardware. The best tech today could be second best tomorrow in the world of technology too. And rumors are just rumors without hard evidence to hold them up. :palm:

UPDATE:
I have ordered the NZXT CPU cooler along with pre-ordering the Z77 EVGA FTW Edition MoBo.

Obviously this board uses an 1155 socket and so I have been caught red-handed. I'll be springing for the Ivy Bridge 3770K as soon as it is released.

However, the other components such as ram, vid cards etc. will be remaining as part of the build.

I am also being tempted with an Intel 128gb Cherryville SSD...if I add it my total will be up to about $3,400.

Just trying to figure out how to choose which games I install to the SSD using Steam/Origin etc. E.g use Steam have 1 or 2 games on the SSD and the rest off of the HDD.

Don't worry man, one day you'll get it. It took a lot for me to get to this point and I hit a special point in my life which is helping me do this. This is a first for me and every other pc I've ever built has been a 1k budget build. Just save up, and make it a goal to one day spoil yourself in the way you want. :)
