I remember somewhere seeing a processor described as this on the blog.

Could you remind me as to what it (and it's immediate series) is called and what socket it is, I want to use it for an HTPC.

You buy it with the motherboard. i.e., E-350's are soldered on the motherboard.

Not the E-350.

Yes, your topic says E-350. That's an AMD processor. You can either be more clear, or stop being an ass.

Your topic is more than a little confusing. The E-350 is a specific AMD product that's being used in high-end netbooks and low to mid notebooks. If that's not what you're asking about, you'll have to be more clear.

There is a sort-of comparable setup for desktops. The AMD "A" series is an APU that consists of a multi-module processor with an attached graphics core.

Ok fine, I'll spell it out.

I remember seeing on the MaxPC blog that the new line of low end AMD processors (not APU's) where being released, and that they where comparable to the A series chips without GPU's. I want to use one for an HTPC. Could you remind me what series that is.

The A-series APUs is just the Athlon II with a built in GPU. Their E and C series have no CPU-only equivalent. Besides that, they were meant to compete with Intel's Atom.

The GPU anyway in the E-350/C-350 is beneficial in a HTPC setup because that's what'll do the heavy lifting. And it'll do it much better than a processor alone.

Are you thinking of this from Feb 28, 2012?
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/a ... ii_x4_cpus
"...as AMD quietly rolled out a pair of new Athlon II X4 CPUs, otherwise known as "Llano chips without integrated graphics."

It's not a new processor line; but a couple of new parts in an existing lineup. They fit into socket FM1.

Thank you. That's exactly what I needed.

If you're thinking about buying a socket FM1 motherboard, don't. They're stuck for the Llano CPU and in fact, that Athlon II they rolled out was pretty pointless. Get an AM3+ motherboard.
