Alright, i've got a HP W2007, LCD if it matters.

It's time to clean this thing because and this will mark the first time in about...3-4 years... And first time in general, as i've never cleaned an LCD monitor before. I've heard numerous times that microfibre clothes are the way to go when it comes to cleaning electronics, but i don't trust them, as i've put them to the test myself, and they left micro-scratches...pffft...

Any sure-fire way to clean a monitor, no BS, no subjective/altenate methods; just one signature way that the majority of us computer enthusiasts clean this particular piece of hardware.

I really don't wanna mess up this monitor... Man does it need a good once-over, lol...

LOL, I'm not sure if there really is a perfect method. There's "do this, don't do this, and for sure don't do this" out there, but it's all precautionary IMO. I think you can dust it with a microfiber cloth, but not when you scrub it.

I've used Windex and/or vinegar and demin mix for over a decade with no issues. The reason why they don't recommend this is that you can over do it with a squirt bottle and get it below the bezel to muck up the insides. Wet a towel, rub it on...no problems. Use it with a monitor that's been off for a while (cool screen) and it won't streak one bit.

The "towel" I use is Brawny too. Nothing special at all and shouldn't scratch. Go side to side. Repeat until it's clean. But I also have many clean 3M microfiber cloths I use in the garage for painting and there's no reason that they'd scratch a monitor; So I really don't understand how microfiber would do that to a screen. Doesn't scratch anything I've put them on, even aggressively.

I think MPC in an old magazine (from like 2004) highly advised against WinDex or any ammonia based cleaner.

I use an LCD cleaner solution from Monster (the only thing I actually bought from that company...) with a microfiber cloth. Yes it works just fine and I've used it on glossy displays, so I don't know where this "microscratch" thing you're talking about comes from (are you sure that cloth didn't catch anything?). In lack of an LCD cleaning solution, diluted rubbing alcohol with a cotton pad or something works just fine, assuming all you're doing is cleaning off the grime and oil from the screen and you're not trying to get off old crusty sauce.

Also you're not supposed to apply your cleaning solution directly onto the screen, you're supposed to wet the cleaning cloth, apply it then, and the get another to dry rub it off. This also gets around the issue of accidentally spilling the solution between the bezels.

This is all that I have ever used, and never had a problem with it at all.

I usually use just water in a spray bottle and a micro fiber cloth. Seems to do fine.

Well... That depends on which type of gloss finish. Sony, being morons, clearcoated the ps3, and polished the hell out of it, anything will scratch it. The PS3 is a perfect example of something that should have Gorilla Glass... Complete morons, i tell you. A piece of dust rubbing up against the surface, with any material on the other side, microfibre,lint-free, you name it... They really weren't thinking... Wonder if Corning will make you a custom shell for something like that, if you pay them an appropriate amount of money? Hhhmmm... Gorilla Glass PS3 shell...

Anyhow, back on track, i found these... I suppose i could go and get them...

Glossy electronics are kind of stupid these days anyway.

Besides that, adding Gorilla Glass to the fat model would've drove up the price considerably. Curves and glass are not a good idea.

I bought a product called Innovera. It is a container with wipes in it that are pretreated with a solution which is non-static, non abrasive and non-alcohol in formula. I cleans my monitors and my 52 TV squeaky clean! I bought it at Best Buy. Of what I have gleaned off the net, it is not a good idea to use alcohol at all.

Nasty

true the above, its not the glass or monitor, its the coatings that are applied for antiglare etc.
