Hi,
Just finished a fresh install of WIn7 x64 on the wifes computer. (got itunes working per previous posts, thanks!)

When I'm logged in as admin, on speedtest.net I get downloads of 24+ Mbps. Then I login to the wifes account (limited/standard?) I get 11 Mbps or less on the same test location (same browser - firefox - lastest update). What gives with that?
I have the same software loaded on both accounts with the same standards install parameters. Notron 360 v6, superantispyware, Office, itunes firefox, chrome, revo uninstaller, ccleaner.
I used TCIPOtimizer to view the registry settings and they appear to be the same, but there are about a hundred+ to see.
any suggestions?

Windows isn't downloading updates in the background is it? I've noticed Windows Updates tend to kill my download speed at times.

Another thing to test is to create another test account and see if the slow speeds persist.

Made a new user as suggested. nothing installed. waited for each user cpu usage was around 2-5% to test. No Win update downloads.
speed test results Admin 25.412 Mbps
New user (standard) 11.21 Mpbs
Wife acct (standard) 4.32 (upload 4.29 here and about the same for each user) They should not be that close, imo.

So what might be going on????

Are you testing around the same time of day? It could be ISP speed fluctuation. Though that is a bit significant.

That is strange.

I'm out of ideas here, hopefully someone else comes along.

Switch the other accounts over to an Admin account, and see if that fixes the problem, then at least we know then were there could be a starting point. My thought is that some driver or software (I think most of the tests are java based), might want admin access and its not seeing it so there is extra headroom being lost.

I am having a very similar problem..I can stream music (specifically live radio station) from my computer but not for all of the users on the same computer with the same access?? I cant see that anything is different, but one user profile will run much slower and wont allow streaming at all? Anybody have ideas here?

Thanks,

Candice
