My Dell XPS 700 will not boot. The machine has been problem free and other then a couple of reloading the OS and installing Win 7 it has been problem free for several years.

When I turn the machine on it will turn on but that is it. It will not give me the option for a boot menu or (F2 or F12) or anything. Also when I turn the machine off it turns off immediately instead of having to hold the button for several seconds to turn it off.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Do you get anything on the monitor when you try to turn on the computer?

When was the last time you have cleaned out this PC? It could possibly be overheating (doubt it since it has been working fine for years, but worth a shot).

There is nothing on the screen. Usually I can hear a couple of beeps and the machine spinning up but now it has nothing. Also, I blow it free of dust every few months. We have over 10 desktops and laptops in the family and due to good use practices we almost never have a problem.

Can you try connecting it to another monitor and see if you can get some sort of display?

Thanks for the suggestion. I just hooked up an older digital monitor and it booted up.. ???????? I will try the monitor on the other machine and see if I can track this problem down for sure. Please keep following this thread, I will post what I find out. Once again thank you. SORT of thank you, (LOL) I was talking to the wife and I told her I have had the XPS 700 for 6 years and she said that maybe it was time to buy a new one. Tempting but if this one keeps working it will stay.

Who knows, maybe the cable was loose or something.

Or more likely, maybe the gremlins decided to leave it alone for now  .

I think your right with the Gremlins leaving it alone FOR NOW. I tried to start it multiple times and that tells me that something is wrong. We'll see.

Thanks for the help.

Yeah, sounds like a loose cable connection.
