Is there any harm putting a laptop on top of a desktop computer (to help save space)? Is there any EMI that will be coming off the PC's PSU that could affect the laptop (in terms of data loss due to magnetics or electrical interferences? I'm not so worried about heat, mainly data integrity and loss.

If the EMI coming off a desktop computer is enough to affect electronics placed within 6 inches of it, it would fail all manner of FCC testing and would never be on the market.

So no, the EMI coming out of a desktop won't affect anything.

yeah, and the home PC PSU regulations (class B) is actually more strict than the commercial regulations (class A), because there are more unknowns in the home environment.
