I downloaded the CP of windows 8 and got it installed, now I have no sound on my tv. Sound is delivered through a 3.5mm audio jack. (similar to a head phone jack). When I plugged my headphones i can hear sounds, but when I plug my tv back into the jack I cant hear sounds. I have the tv connected to the computer via HDMI cable. If anyone has a solution on how to fix Id like to know. thanks.

You should be getting the sound because you are using the HDMI cable. You shouldn't need any other cable for sound.

Did you tell your TV that you have a PC plugged in? It is somewhere in your setup portion within the TV menu...at least it is in my Samsung.

Considering that this is really alpha-ish, have you tried to find a way to manually set your output to a specific device?

What video card do you have, Nvidia or ATI/AMD? ATI/AMD cards have sound on them and all you need is the HMDI cable and you are good to go, however if you have Nvidia...then you have to go the route you are trying to go.

I don't like what I'm hearing on Win 8. I think I'll hold off a while on it and see what develops.

I used this app to get rid of Metro altogether:

After I used this app win8 looked and ran like win7.

you have to switch the input selector on your tv...from hdmi input to pc input...you should have a few diff input selections(hdmi for tv,comp 1 and 2) as so on. you should see a pc input give that a try or if you plugged into another hdmi input on the back of tv select that hdmi input.

My nvidia card doesn't need an internal spdif connector. The audio driver is included in the last several nvidia driver updates. You might need to update your graphics driver. If you want sound output on the hdmi then you have to change the default audio output in settings to "nvidia HD audio" in sound settings (assuming nvidia card) - I don't know how ati configures theirs as I've never used an ati card.

You didn't mention if you were using an HDMI switching receiver - this can have an effect if pass thru is not enabled when the receiver is off. Also, sometimes when your pc sleeps the secondary display will turn off (tv display) negating sound. At least, mine does. I always have to fiddle with it. Kind of annoying - didn't do this until I got my HDMI switching receiver - upgraded from an older onkyo non HDMI model.

In either case - here's a sure fire work around: Most HDMI tv's have spdif digital inputs. Pretty much all mobo's and soundcards also have this as an output option. You can hook it up with any rca cable. Hook it up, set your digital coax as default sound output and you should sound again - good quality digital sound as opposed to the low quality 3.5mm sound.

As far as specifying pc as an input in a menu - I have a high end LG 120hz 1080p and I have no such option so I doubt this is obviously something not standard on all tv's.
