I'd settle for a 4P G34 (Bulldozer or Interloagos) machine or two. 400k-500k PPD per machine would be fine by me for heat:)

Quick question, sorry to bump this thread btw, when folding overnight my gtx 560 ti is showing as running in 2d desktop mode or performance level 2. The clocks are about half of regular clocks. Is there anyway to make folding@home utilize the extra power that is not currently doing anything?

Do you also use LN2 for airconditioning?

why would I use LN2 for AC when clearly I need to retain heat from the environment, not utterly remove it. Besides, LN2 is for n00bs, gotta go LHe

SM,

What nVidia drivers are you using? (I'll assume you are running some flavor of Windows - if not, proceed with caution)

As I recall, this was an issue with some of the older nVidia driver sets. The first work unit Folds at 100%... but while the Folding software is busy uploading the finished work, the GPU drops down to 2D clocks to save power.
The issue was that the video card does not properly ramp back up to 100% power with the next work unit Folded.

Others may chime in, but I would uninstall your current nVidia drivers and get the most current drivers from the nVidia website.

And as previously stated, Welcome to Folding and Welcome to team 11108 - Maximum PC!

Latest driver set for the GeForce 5 series is 290.53 beta. I'm not sure if others have vetted its stability with F@H. If they don't work, you could always roll back to a non-beta set. My 460 and 570 are running fine on older drivers than yours, though (280.26).

stable for me, and my bf3 is much more stable since the new beta drivers. I've only experienced one hard lock so far with it instead of one every 4 hours of gaming.

Got my third 570 back from MSI this week; fixed and folding.

Since I've been content with the dual-SLI config on my main rig for the last month, I've decided to just park it in my Core 2 Duo machine. Plus the 3rd 570 didn't really help too much on a single 1200p display that's capped at 60hz and the fact that my gpu temps goes from 74 to 87 with all three slots taken up (I mean seriously, they know these cards are going to be stacked, why not put the blower intake on top of the card or something?).

Anyhow, I found out something interesting. I mainly used the old pc as a NAS so it didn't have any displays hooked up (used remote desktop) and I could never get the 8800 gts to fold. The second I put a monitor on it, now it folds like a champ. A few extra points for me. yah!
