Btw, its a product that was reviewed back in march of 2010... (link)

Why not grab a cheap BD burner like the Asus BW-12B1ST or the LG WH12LS39 for half the price? The LG is suppose to have a faster BD-R dual layer write speed.

Nasty....seems the link is still to the 950......

JBaz....the 940 uses 3 different media mediums for all types of burning this burner can do, where as the LG uses different media for almost each different types of burning......http://www.produplicator.com/lg-blu-ray ... 0ls30.html. THO, since I cant find the 940, this LG looks like the best alternative.

Do what? The plexy and LG's cover the same disc formats for burning...

Also, the 950 was reviewed by MPC not that long ago (link) Still got a decent 8 verdict with similar results to the 940.

they do not have to use those disks, they just get the best performance from them. and some manufacturers tune their hardware for the best performance with certain media, but they can still use almost any media. be aware that the hardware is capable of faster performance than the media being produced, that is not a negative for the hardware, its just that the media producers cant keep up with the hardware speed. it was the same with dvd and cd.

Oh you mean media manufacturers? why didn't you just say that? Medium is just another way to say media so saying media mediums is a bit redundant and confusing, specially in the context of your sentence. And that's recommended, doesn't mean that's the only thing they can use.

Honestly, for DVD-/+R's, it really doesn't matter anymore. Even cheap crappy ones will work just as good, the biggest issue is their shelf life after being burned which is why most tend to stay with name brands. With RW's and DL, you probably want to stick with name brand only since cheap ones will be much slower and may provide you with coasters.

CD's? dime a dozen, who uses them still? really? I think I still have a spool of 4x CD's from the 90's that I never got around to using. lol

BD media? no brainer, stick with Sony... I mean come on they made the damn thing and you can usually find their stuff on sale on amazon frequently.

@nasty: that's probably because the 950 is the newer one and the 940 is discontinued... who would have thought that they would just kill the 940... those bastards! lol
