So, having only been back at folding for about a month now (close to a million now! yah!) and been completely stunned at how many WU's my system chews through; my biggest question is how come people who run GPU clients don't get any extra bonus points considering our WU's gets done hella fast and work 50,000,000 steps instead of 500,000 on the SMP WU? I feel like I'm getting ripped off on points when SMP WU's seem to get way more points than GPU counter parts for much much less work being done.

Am I just missing something here? Each of my 570's can pump a WU in 2.2 hours. While my i7 takes almost 18-20 hours.

I'm seriously considering just getting a 4P server rack setup to fold (plus do other duties) just to rack up some points and not WU's.

First, CPU's are pretty much losing their bonus points so don't feel too left out. There's talk of giving GPU's bonus points, but just like CPU QRB's, these will be aimed at pretty high end equipment like Tesla farms and not desktop gaming cards. The whole idea with bonuses is aimed at dedicated equipment that will help the science the most.

Steps taken to finish a project aren't linear to the difficulty of the WU to chew on. If you notice the credits for the WU's for the 560/570 you'll see they're about 1,300 where a 250/260 will get a bunch of 353's any moment of the year, so there's the bonus IMO. You're given more credits up front for having a GPU able to do more complicated work in the same time frame lesser GPU's can't and are rewarded for it.

The 4P bug should bite us more, and I'm shocked that it's just now becoming a big topic lately. I never thought about it, and I'm not sure why that is. I guess it bit me in the search of how to get bonuses again and it just elevated from there. Just doing a 2P would allow you to shut down all GPU and i7 folding you're currently doing, net much better points, save a LOT of energy you're billed for monthly, and get your computers back. Some are stating 250-280W at the wall for a 2P optie where I see 610-625W in one folding desktop box. The little 1,500W UPS is basically useless because it will run for about 30 seconds on each of them.

You know where I stand...I say you do it dude.

Well, I'm using the 570's as a space heater for my large room, which has worked out very well thus far. Otherwise, I would have used a real space heater that eats through 1500w, this way I do science and stay warm.

So how do I know how complex a WU is? The project numbers don't tell me anything.

I had to stop folding again because it got warmer outside and it was just too hot. Most of my folding is with GPU's and they use a lot of electricity and heat my computer room up so much that I cant stand to sit in hear. I dont want to stop folding completely, so I may crank up the folding systems for a couple days, then shut them down for a few days. That way I can save on electricity and only have to sweat for a couple of days.

Got a new database for GPU PPD. https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key ... =100&h=750
