 Post subject: Help with hard drive.

Hi my pc is broke i have taken the hard drive out but now i need a usb power and data transfer cable for it can anyone sugest what i should try. Here's a link to the hard drive i have. i would like to use it as a external HD if pos what cables should i use?. thanks for your help.

what is your interface? IDE or Sata? those drives came in both interfaces.

i have a lead that fits both to usb but ive plugged it in and it doesnt work on its own think i need a power lead to it aswell?

You cannot spin up a 3.5" drive via USB needs a 12V power source. You should have a spot on your drive enclosure for power as well.

Are you using an enclosure? If not you should get one and put your Hdd in that. That is what those things are for.

What fuses? The fuses on the PSU? you may have shorted something.

He's talking about the 5 or 13amp replaceable fuse built into the 240v power cables. Euro standard PC power cables.

I just saw that on another post thanks for the pic though. I still think its a short or a bad PSU.

Maybe a bad cable ? It happens, try another one if you have one, although I'm inclined to go with the other suggestion of a bad PSU.
