Maximum PC

I recently built a new PC (about 2 months ago) with two nvidia 560 TI's (Twin Frozr), and I used the same 24 inch ASUS LCD monitor from my old computer. I noticed there's something weird that happens when I view anything that is black on the screen. Its most obviously noticeable when I'm starting up a game and the screen is completely black. Basically, across the entire black space there are faint grey diagonal lines kinda like this:

Anyone know the cause? Maybe my monitor is going out or is outdated?

chance of you taking a picture of this? are you sure its being displayed by the pc or is it still there when the display is off?

It could be the cables going bad... The only time I've seen that happen was with old CRT's with some refresh rate issues.

Its definitely the monitor. I just realized that when I switch between the display modes (Scenery, Gaming, Theater, Standard, Night View) the one where the lines show up is "Theater". What sucks is that one is the darkest most crisp black... Scenery is the next most effective so I'll use that. I wonder if this is covered under warranty?

MAKE CERTAIN you've done these things first.

Turn off the computer, take out the graphics card, entirely, then re-seat it.

Unplug the cables going into the card and the monitor, make sure the pins/what-have-you look fine then connect them again.

I can't tell you how many times I've had friends/relatives think they needed a new "x" "y" or "z" item, and the problem was due to a loose connection somewhere. I show up to 'fix' their computer and it takes me 40 seconds, leaving me annoyed and them feeling stupid. Don't ask me how, but cables seem to undo themselves, maybe it's elves? gremlins?

What you described really does seem like a monitor issue due to the mode-switching you mentioned, but until you go through the steps above you're not going to know for 100% sure. Better to be able to fix it yourself than sending your monitor away for 2-8 weeks.

We on the forum have no way of knowing the date you purchased your monitor, model, make, or if there is any kind of warranty etc, but I'm assuming that was mostly a rhetorical question.

Yea I'll try reconnecting both GFX cards and all the connections first. I've been needing to get an LED monitor anyways though, so maybe if the problem persists I should just sell it... no one would be the wiser
