Yeah I know it sounds odd but I've got a system here in my care that won't boot with a certain printer attached, specs for the PC.....

Asus P861M-LE/CSM mobo
i5 2500K (was on sale and was cheaper than the normal 2500)
8Gb DDR3 Corsair Vengance Dual channel kit
(Recycled for the interim) GeForce 9400 video card will be upgraded soon enough
Seagate 7200.12 1TB HD
Samsung DVD Burner
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Coolermaster Extreme Power Plus 550 watt PSU

The printer is a HP C5280 All in one with CD printing

I built the machine got it tweaked right up nice and configured and running sweet, not a thing wrong at all even got a bit of an overclock on the 2500K so I go to deliver the machine to my client (more of a friend actually) and do the final steps of setting up their hardware at home, that being a MS Lifecam VX3000, a WD My Book external USB HDD at 1TB and the printer, well everything is going great untril the printer installation.

Following HP's directions, install software and connect printer when your told to *downloaded the latest driver package as well for Win7 x64 support) and all went great, fine in fact until I had to reboot the system and it took a VERY long time to shut down and when it cycled on a warm boot, it hung at the UEFI logo screen and would bot boot, tried changing the USB settings in BIOS (UEFI( to no avail, swapped USB cables to no avail, but if it's hung at the logo screen and you either yank the cable out of the PC or turn the printer off it'll boot right up like the speed demon it is.

Anyone got any ideas ? Thanks in advance !

well that sucks... does it do the same thing if the printer is plugged into the mobo or a usb hub

have you checked for mb bios updates?

if you boot w/ the printer off then turn it on once windows boots... does the computer hang? and/or does the printer work?

We have a solution, after hooking said printer up to my system with a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R on both it's USB2 and USB3 ports and an older Asus P5N-E SLI board with similar results no matter what BIOS settings in the USB config are used, I have determined the printer to be screwed, replaced by a Samsung CLX-3185.....all better. Besides getting the friend into a Laser will save her in the long run over the ink gulping inkjet !

The friends new build came out of the box with the latest BIOS (UEFI) installed, and as far as what it'd do if it was powered on after system boot, it would work, as in printing, but wouldn't scan or report it's ink levels back to the PC......and this behaviour was noticed on the other systems I tried the printer on and lemme tell ya it's scary watching your high end system be taken down by a screwed printer.......this is why I'm not a fan of HP devices....not one bit.

In the boot section of the bios you may have listed boot to usb device as first boot device and that is why it won't boot with the printer plugged in.

On all systems the first boot device was a hard drive save for the X58 which boots off a SSD, checked everything, even going so far as to directly connect the idiotic HP to my little Acer 1830TZ......I'm fairly certain something inside the pprinter is hooped .
