Maximum PC

In the last issue you stated that there is a new King in router land the 4500 or the N900 as Netgear likes to call it. I am not debating this, however, my question is, in various articles on your site you list speeds between various routers the 4000 vs 3700 and the 3700 vs 4500, etc...every article has the 3700 with different speeds for the same distance. Why is this?

For example, and I am not looking at the article right now but in the 4500 vs 3700 you have the bedroom speed as 84.3 and in the 4000 if I remember it was well over 100

I noticed the same thing about the speeds for the WNDR3700.
They are all over the place.
How can these reviews be so varied and inconsistent.

Agreed, to a point. In a past article they gave the router with the highest speeds a lower rating because they had to set it up out of the box. Maximum Plug n Play it's called now? No wonder I can't find it on the magazine racks any more. Well, that and the constant budget builds.

Michael Brown would be the one to answer this, but my hunch is that routers are retested each time they're compared to ensure the conditions are the same. iSP upgrades, network congestion/activity, and other factors can affect the results on any given day.
