Maximum PC

Hey guys,

My boot drivbe is a 120gb OCZ Vertex 3. I have noticed that in the last week or so it has filled up by a Gb but I have not written to it. For the last 3 months it has been at 78.7 free and now it is at 77.5. As far as I know I have everything turned off that will write to it.

Thoughts on where to look first?

My first guess is that your OS was updated, causing some lost space.

You may also want to try Space Sniffer. It's a small program that will give you a graphical representation of what is taking up your HDD space.

I know it looks a little confusing, but each little box represents a file or folder and how much space it takes up. Try it! I'm sure you'll like it.

Found the issue right away with this program!!!

Look like I installed a game to that drive by accident!!

You can get some space back by running Disk Cleanup within windows and include the Restore option when you do. I got back 20 gigs after a year of running XP. I am sure it will be the same for the other OSes too. It leaves the last Restore Point and dumps everything else.

Nasty

I think I have system restore turned off completely (one of the SSD guides I read suggested this methinks). The above suggested program is neat, you can leave it open and it will show you the activity to the drive as it happens. It turns out that MalwareBytes is constantly writing log files, they are small but I think this is bad for an SSD. I might have to move that program to another drive.

Now I just need to see WHY malware bytes is writing it its log every 30 seconds!!
