I doubt it's an overheating problem. The program crashes as soon as the saved game is loaded right after starting the game, not after playing for some period of time. Also, if I restart the campaign I can play up to about the same point in the first level, i.e. I kill the bad guys and start exploring.
I found these system requirements at:
