So, my computer has been sporadically crashing for some time now, and after a few days of testing, it seems my video card is dying, and my motherboard has no integrated video.

I am asking for help from you guys. I need a video card to keep this machine running (college tends to need a computer).

I don't have any money, but if someone can spare a card, even a crappy one, I will gladly turn my X6 and the card into points for them.

I'm curious as to what tests you have done that says your video card is dying????

doing folding for over 10 years i'm interested in anything that can tell when a vid card fails...

that would be amazing for folding....

@staypuff

back when i had my dual 9600gso's, i used evga's artifact scanner to help troubleshoot why one of them refused to fold anymore...one of the cards needed a slower memory clock then stock to function properly....so in a way that helped diagnose a bad video card

I was constantly getting BSODs with the error code 0x00000124, which is common to a PCI-e device causing errors.

Using a friend's videocard, the BSODs were gone completely. Unfortunately, that's the card he uses on a daily basis.

This card "died" a few times in the past. The worst occurrence was that I got artifacts just sitting on the desktop, and I had to keep my system off for a full day before they went away.

I don't think my RA would appreciate me using the oven to bake a video card, haha

If I wasn't 9 hours from home, I would definitely try it. And I probably will, once I go back for Christmas.

Just do it extremely late at night and say you are making dinner  .

I know this is silly but
does this video card have a fan or straight up heat sinc?
regardless, the point will be the same,
have you checked the heat paste/fan connection etc
if its over heating it will die

It's an EVGA GTS 250

It has a fan, and the temps stay around 40C idle and maybe 65C under load (I always have the fan on 100%)
