I came across this link, but I'm still dubious to it's credibility: http://lab501.ro/procesoare-chipseturi/ ... er-preview

The tl;dr version, the FX-8150 seems to favor number crunching over logic. Like it does well in Handbrake, some Irfanview benchmark, and SuperPi. Gaming, there's a good gap between it and the 2700K.

But again, I don't know its credibility.

i never thought it would compete with the Intel cpu, although that would be nice. im not happy about the socket change either. that was one of amd's attractions--not having to try to keep up with the insane Intel socket changes, every month.

i would really like to see a universal socket, i.e. both cpu's could fit into a standard mobo, but thats to much to hope for.

i have seen the q4 launch pushed back to oct. 16. i would have thought MaxPc would have received and advance chip for testing.

i have an mobo that is amd3+ not the fm1, ill be wondering if there is a performance hit using the different(but equivalent?) mobo.

peace

thanks, i knew that already.

have the 990fx chipset amd3+ socket

i was just wondering whether there was a performance hit when the FM1 sockets come out or are they 100% equivalent to the AMD3+

just my thoughts

I'm sadden of how slow it is. Do we really have to wait till win8 comes out for the OS to take advantage of the new redesign? Wonder if a fix for win7 could improve the efficiency.

You can always use the Developers version of Win8 to take full advantage of the new processors...that is what I am going to do.

where would one get this win8,

btw, most of the improvements, i have read about, seem like a sp2 release would cover them all. maybe the age of the annual OS is nearing an end?

Windows8 Developers Edition:

You will want to get rid of the Metro GUI:

thanks, dl'ing now. will put on clean install. curious about the differences, but i still think most of the "improvements" would be covered in a sp2

but its all about the money

I should use it on one of my old boxes just to play around on it.

Look at the win8 required specs before installing.

Taking advantage of touch input requires a screen that supports multi-touch
To run Metro style Apps, you need a screen resolution of 1024 X 768 or greater

... Its the same sys req as win7... Shoot, Even my old, old P4 should work.

Give it a shot then and let us know how it worked out. My old system worked faster with win8 than it did with win XP.

The system was:

Intel 2180 cpu@2gig

1 gig of ram

Asus P5G41-M LE/CSM

Radion 4870 video card

On-board sound

my old sys, still works well. (not my main comp.)

2.2ghz amd393 socket with 4g of ram 80g hd, pci-e graphix card

iv dl'ed w8 ill have some time hopefuly monday.

have a 60g ssd drive, might use that, would be good to c if there is'nt an improvement over w7

unfortunately the sata bus is only 150mb/s sata1 on this mobo, but still a good test box.

i actually have older boxes in storage, wwhich i sometimes cannibalize parts off, to fix some friends computers.

i still think that there is very little actual improvement from w7 to w8: but now i can c for myself

today is the offical release day of the bulldozer and iv looked at anatech review. it looks like the fx-4170(4.2+turbo) would b a good game cpu, unfortunitly its not yet out.

doesnt look like ill b upgrading my x6 cpu for a while.

peace

after looking over the reviews on many sites, my conclusion is that this version is a bust, i did get a fx 4100 for $109 and will probly use it as a HT-pc. iam very disappointed in amd. all this waiting and for what, some benchmarks are even slower than their older phemoms. i could have used the $250 on a better other build.

peace
