Maximum PC

I know this may be a debatable topic, but what is the most popular OS among developers (mainly web developers). I'm thinking of dual booting one of my machines, and do web design quite a bit and primarily am doing this to test websites, but I might want to do some design in Linux.

The machine it's being installed on is a P4 2.8 GHz with 1.5GB of RAM, and an 80GB hard drive, so it should be powerful enoug hto run many distros. I may also want to do some applications programming on the Linux distro too, so extra programming tools are a plus.

Suggestions? Is Ubuntu sufficient, or should I look into other distros like Fedora, etc?

Ubuntu and/or Fedora works. Use the Synaptec Package system to get the programmer tools you need and an HTTP editor.

One doesn't really have an advantage over another in this area.

My suggestion...try a bunch and see what you like.

If it'd suggest anything, I'd say Gentoo and not because it's any better at development, but it'll certainly make you more aware of what's going on behind the scenes and you end up shooting yourself in the foot more often then not...

but hey, you learn from mistakes right?
