Where can I download older versions of Firefox tha work on Windows? I looked at their archives, but most of them (at least for the versions of FF2) are in some file type with an extension of .MAR.

Suggestions? I'd like to download from a credible source, ideally directly from the developer, if possible.

Firefox 3.6
I personally would not run anything earlier.
The .MAR extension was not anywhere I looked. Could you link it?

Well, I have been learning my History so I don't have to repeat it. I don't have time for a Googlefu lesson, especially with Tae Kwon Do and Kung Soft.

Thanks. I'm aware of oldversion.com and the others like it, but don't realy like using them. I generally like to download my software directly from its developer's website if at all possible, and the majority of "good" software companies keep a running archive of at least the past few versions (maybe dating back a year or two, and in some cases longer). For example, Apache, keeps an archive of their http server app going all the way back to v2.0.x, which is several revisions ago (And several years ago), plus it was fairly easy to find within a few clicks (no real searching needed).

I did eventually find their archive, but can't seem to find where the Win32 binaries were located. I did find one, but it has the .MAR extension, as i Had mentioned above.

And yes, I do use google plenty of times to find stuff like this, but with the credibility of some times, they can seem legit, but you can never be too sure, so thats why I'm very careful about where I download programs from... When offered a download or a CD, I generally get the CD, unless I need the software ASAP and can't wait a few days... I feel its a bit safer that way--except for when downloading from a manufacturer's / developer's site, like Microsoft or Mozilla, then it doesn't really bother me as much.

The official Mozilla archive server. And who doesn't know how to use the G?
Oh, wait. These are the .mar s. There was a prog to handle this, but the links are dead.
Shoot.

Yes this was my main problem... can't find a way to read the MAR files.

You'll have to unzip them somehow. .mar is the Mozilla Archive extension for updates.

http://web.archive.org/web/200508060036 ... zilla.com/ (Releases 1.5 and up)
Waybackmachine archives from Wayback in 98. If you find the release dates for the versions, you can go to them in the archived site and get the release versions.

IF there were anything wrong with the site and it's downloads you would find out about it. People will rage and complain if the downloads are bad, etc.. and action will be taken. However, its not the case. Also, Mozilla includes checksums for each release. Download and compare it to the ones listed. And don't say that they don't provide it, I just tried it out.

My links are the real thing, direct from Mozilla, just back in time. These are basically backups.
I'm not saying Airhead's DLs are bad, it's just that this is closest to what you wanted.

Yup.
Plus, this has checksums.
On the subject of the downloader, I have a few objections:
1. Why would I pay for BETA software?
2. Why would you need more than a browser to download here? I have a screenshot here: Image

For a file it is easy to download from Web Archive, but when you are downloading an entire web site archive (you may have lost your website and need to recover it or may have bought an expired domain and want to recover its previous content) definitly you will need Web Archive Downloader as recovering a whole website with browser seems to be crazy.

The question was about DLing specific programs.
If you want to DL a whole site from the archive, I'd use HTTrack ( http://www.httrack.com/ ) with a few filters.

I reviewed HTTrack, it nowhere says that it downloads from the archive.org, although it may be good utility to download an existing website, but for downloading from the Web archive I am using Web Archive Downloader.

It is a link scanner that DLs stuff too. What you do is you filter out everything but links that contain the correct keywords, such as "mozilla" in the the case of the Mozilla website. It will then recursively download all the webpages that match your criteria. It works on not only normal non-archived websites (and subsets of websites, such as certain months and not others from a blog) but also on archived ones. It's just a matter of filtering.

Indeed, the real nicety of this site is access to all the previous versions of the app.
