Hi guys,
Its been a while since I folded and I just got a new laptop running the AMD A6 quad-core proc. I was reading up on laptop folding and I hear its not so great for the life of the computer. All that hdd writing could damage it (is this right or did i read it wrong?).

Anyway I was thinking, why not run it off a Flash drive (usb or an SD card)? Would this let me laptop-Fold without hurting the computer?

If I do this, is it also a good idea to remove the battery and run off the power supply?

Thanks

If it's a HDD then it will not hurt. Running FAH on an SSD can shorten it's lifespan. Taking out th battery can reduce heat but is not mandatory.

is laptop folding common? I'm not saying 24/7 folding but maybe 1 or 2 WU/week.

I occasionally fold on my m11x. I used to fold on a bunch of HP nc6000's. they did not do much (~150-250 ppd each depending on the WU).

I'm posting from my AMD dual-core laptop that folded nearly 24/7 for over a year. I haven't seen any problems caused by folding. When the heat breaks, it will see duty again.

**DISCLAIMER: YMMV**

I folded on my m11 x and an hp I had. Even withthe m11 the points were too small for me to justify the heat and stress.

I ran a PIII for about 1 1/2 years

Until it no longer was worth the points it could provide.
Clients keep increasing the need for power.
Using 45W was very nice.

It set on two thin boxes that raised it about 2 inches for ventilation
I made sure the exhaust was always clear.
