So after a bit of a wait, some issues with ASUS and my new mobo not liking my Old bios chip too much (got it working perfectly though) I am back and folding strong. I got my shiny new ASUS P8P67 PRO B3 Stepping motherboard back from RMA on Tuesday, and went straight to work trying to get it to work properly. First it wouldn't boot my windows at all (Had to re-order my sata ports and change them to IDE mode to fix). Almost had to do a full re-install and that would have sucked... then, It refused to fold at 4.6GHZ with my original bios chip from the old mobo, but I was able to get that fixed with a bios update and some tweaking with the settings. (Now I have 2 BIOS chips :D ) And I have also finished lapping both my CPU and Heatsink. GO ME!!! Now I just need a tube of some good TIM, anything will be better than the Dynex shit I am being forced to use right now, and I will probably see an even better temp drop. I went from around (stosk clocks) 115F idle to between 95-100F. I am working on testing my OC idle and loaded. But I really would like to get some decent TMI. I also got bored and lapped a P4 3GHZ proc that I have.

PICTURES!!!

The i7 2600k and the Coolermaster Hyper N250 both lapped.

Hey, what is that last one?? That's not just a desktop is it? It looks like a custom login screen. 8)

What grit do you finish off with when you lap? I've not been brave enough to try lapping. Maybe if I upgrade my wife's PC, I might try it on the old equipment.

Glad you got the RMA mess behind you!

I've lapped a couple cpus, but never got one to reflect like yours (even while finishing with 1500 'wet' grit). Your's does looks great... too the point I'm going
to try again!

That is my custom boot screen that I made a few months back but never took a pic of. My login screen is also custom. lol

I finished off with 2500 grit for a lovely shine I actually started with a relatively high grit and ended with a much higher grit than most people.

Thank you. I used a different method of sanding than the figure eight. I also used straight dry paper from 600 on. ive never gotten a good shine from wet sanding...

here is a good kit, and wet will give a much better finish than dry if it doesn't the paper is to coarse. http://www.frozencpu.com/products/2888/lag-01/FrozenCPU_Deluxe_Heatsink_Lapping_Kit.html

ive always used a figure eight, and rotate a quarter turn every six or eight cycles, keeps it flat without wearing any one side more than another. always set my paper on glass never on wood.

I do small circles and rotate after 30. So 30 small circles, rotate a quarter, 30 small circles rotate a quarter, ect. I do that until I have done a full rotation, and do it again for a second round. It helps me keep the control over the proc and especially a larger heatsink. And I didn't have glass to do it on so I used the inside of the side panel from an old HP comp that I have. no dents or dings in it and it worked. Also FrozenCPU is awesome. I love to order the BAWLS Guarana drink from them. I'm addicted to the stuff.
