I have been using Nero Recode 3 for YEARS to convert avi's of various sources to MP4 for ipt/ipad playback.

I was just wondering if there is a better program out there. What do others use to do this? Damn u Apple for not just playing avis!!

The reason i am thinking about switching is Nero Recode does somehing weird. When you add an AVI file there is a video slider that shows up to tweak the video. The thing is, if you put in 5 different AVI files, the slider will be at 5 different places. There is no consistancy. I usually bump it up to 1.0m but that adds to the size of the file. I wonder if that is just wasting space. I am wondering why it randomly picks a different setting for each video added.

thanks

When only the best, the fastest, the most powerful and the most lightweight conversion tool will do - turn to XMedia Recode.

isn't vlc for playback on computers?

my concern is playing on the ipod, sycning on the ipod, managing thru itunes. There is a VLC app but it does none of those things. I want to make them compatable so i can share with others, who would have no idea how to transfer a video to ipod other than thru itunes also.

I don't see why iTunes is an issue. I think most people who are converting are already adept at getting the final product into it.
