Is there something wrong with the standard fan/heatsink that came with the cpu?

Whatever the game he is playing is running the CPU over 78c and hotter.

I run a 940 AMD cpu at stock 3 gigs all day and have no problem running any game I toss at it. I would say either the heatsink/fan is installed wrong or the thermal paste dried up and isn't doing its job. Overclocking a cpu shortens its life and at 4 gigs you need either water cooling or one expensive air cooling heatsink/fan unit.

I would take the motherboard out to replace the cpu; to be on the safe side. It takes 18 pounds of pressure to install the fan/heatsink.

To get a good answer have an admin move this post to the Overclocking and Cooling Corner.
