I've been researching into a 2 bay NAS that supports gigabit ethernet, DLNA, torrent and budgets under $200...

I've been eyeballing this unit as my baseline
http://www.buy.com/prod/219901689.html

there are pricier ones up in the $300 range but I really want to stay sub $200. I prefere diskless, as I already have bought 2x 1tb drives I plan to use in it.

If anyone has any suggestions on what to look for, why the akito isn't a good choice etc.

I would have pulled the trigger already if the akito was a brand I had heard of before, but since i haven't, i figure i would be locking myself down to a unit that could potentially be unsupported right from the start never seeing firmware updates etc.

I have a Linkstation Duo, which is fairly basic overall, but has both DLNA and a BitTorrent client. The one I'm linking to has 2 x 1TB drives and allows for RAID 0 or 1.

I use a DNS-323 which is a 2 bay storage device from D-Link (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=509).
At first I had some problems with it but those were resolved with firmware updates. At the moment I have 2 x 1 TB drives in there and this thing works very well, no complaints. I would recommend this model but also check to see if they have a later model as I purchased this one a while back in June of 2007. It is still going strong which is impressive now adays with all the cheap plastic parts in everything but that sounds like a rant for a different thread.

I saw that it works with torrent but I never used that feature and I am not sure about DLNA but maybe a newer model would have something built in for that?

Good luck!

Thanks all for your input, I've actually received a bonus at work which has allowed a bit more reach of the pocket book, i hate spending more than 150 in principle, esp since cannot find a sale price for the unit, but I plan to go with synology. It packs all the features I want and then some and I've had their products in the past which makes me feel better than buying from random company i haven't seen before.
