Maximum PC

First let me start by saying long time lurker, first time poster. Second, I've gone through the search feature, and found everything I could on the exams I will be taking (220-701, 220-702). Didn't seem like a whole lot out there, most people are taking the 2006 vs the 2009 exam...

Anyhow, I've read through, cover to cover, the Cert Guide by Scott Mueller, Mark Edward Soper, and David L. Prowse published by Pearson. It covers 220-701 and 220-702 and is like, 900 pages long. It came with a CD that allows you to take practice exams that are supposed to simulate the real thing (number of questions, time limit, etc.)

My question is: I've managed to pass both practice exams pretty well, I look at the feedback over what I've missed and I reread and study the chapters I do poorly in. I'm no newbie to the tech scene, I've been a PC technician for over 8 years, including bench technician and field technician doing residential work and small business and municipal work.

What should I expect when taking these exams? Are there any "trick" questions? What kind of things am I going to need to memorize for the new 2009 exam?

Well, ready or not I'm taking the A+ Essentials (220-701) this Saturday at 1:00PM.

Your best bet would be to post a topic with any questions over at the ProProfs Forum. They have a very active certification community, might get more answers there.

I'm not sure how many people here have taken the 2009 A+ certification (and judging by the amount of replies, probably not many at all).

I have taken the 2006 objectives and yes they try to trick you. The trick is to not read more into the question than what is given.

How did you do? It wasn't so bad, was it? I never felt like I needed A+, but I'll probably take it before they start to expire.



Newer Comptia exams are fairly straight forward. I have my Network+ (2009 Edition) and Security+ (2008 Edition). There's usually a couple off the wall questions, but I never felt like they tried to trick me. The process of elimination always helps when we don't know the answer. Wish I could say the same for ITIL tests.

CompTIA has great Practice Questions on their site, and they're exactly what we can expect to see on the tests.
