What are the best temps and with what speed are you guys getting on this setup?
So far I have hit 4.8GHz but my temps hit 81°C with prime95 running so I throttled back a bit I'm now @ 4.2GHz playing it safe for now. I see a lot of people hitting 4.8 with air but usually throttle down to 4.5GHz to keep it in a decent temp zone.

It use to be a sticky...but what's wrong? Hate to make it simple, but what's wrong with a 5Ghz CPU hitting 90C? If it works, run it...

You only back out when it doesn't work any more. The speed limit to work is 65MPH and I may go 70...is it the Jeep's fault that I pull off the throttle at 95MPH? Nope...run it as you feel willing. Don't be ascared of 80 degree temps. It's just a relative number someone made up that may be from Pentium 4 Prescott days. Run it harder I say.

Its funny how you seem to always put things into different perspective :)

I like the way you think, but for me and this being the primary computer for the house I need it to stay reliable for as long as I can get it.

I read the T Case max is 72.6C. I have overclocked the turbo settings a bit but would really like to get the best of both worlds fast and cool. I know that there are limits and like to make sure I don't fry components again for the above reason. I will do some playing around mainly because I think I need to redo my TIM since I am used to a smooth contact point not the whole direct contact heat pipes. I am thinking that as much as I like AS5 I might try something else as well. Any suggestions?

I got my 2500K / 212+ combo running @ 4.54ghz (x45, 101blk, 1.32v). Prime95 after 1hr, max temp is 59 C. I havent tried going any higher, yet. Using the Asus Sabertooth P67 don't know if it actually helps with the heat.

I ended up getting it to 4.6GHz and the temps to stay below 70C when stressed with folding and prime95 running. I'm still not happy with the idle temps but I will live with it they end up around 30-32C.

Why is the TJMax so much lower on these chips? Intel trying to limit their potential, forcing you to buy the premium parts? You may want to try lapping it, or some different thermal paste. I actually find the less viscous stuff works better with the 212+ (so not IC Diamond).

The TJMax on a i7-980X is 67.9C and on a 1090t its 62C, even a C2Q Q9650 is 71.4C so it looks as though it went up. But I know they all shut down @ around 90C to protect the CPU from thermal meltdown. I was thinking about some thermal paste that is different like some MX-2 or something similar. I also think I need to reapply it in a different way since I filled in the spaces on the heat pipes then put a thin layer down on the CPU. I now know the different methods now since I did some research but it was after i got the computer up and running the second time around so as long as my temps don't go above 70C I think I can wait for that time when I am cleaning out the dust.
