whats a floppy?

j/k ever wonder if one day games will ship of USB keys?

I don't think we'll ever see games ship on usb keys, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a game ship with a usb key that you have to plugin to play the game. Quickly gets rid of 90% of all pirates.

if they did that we would soon start to see virtual USB port programs popping up

Wouldn't be easy.... you might be right though. I'll have to think about it some later.

I would think one could just go out and purchase a USB key and copy the info over.

Still haven't a chance to think about it..... however, you'll find "dongles" on many expensive software items. Over time, the cost of these anti-piracy solutions will decrease significantly. A USB key is probably not the best solution. It seems like a smart card would be less expensive and provide better security. In either case, the game companies would need a certain infrastructure in place before they could implement something involving hardware dongles.
