I just upgraded to Firefox 4 (from Firefox 3.6.16) and love the fact that it opens and loads pages somewhat quicker than Firefox 3. However, one of the downsides to upgrading to Firefox 4 is the fact that it turns out to be incompatible with several (five) things that I was able to use with Firefox 3, the biggest one being Roboform2Go. In order to use this program, I am forced to use Internet Explorer (which I only used to use for Windows Update) in order visit websites that I have set up username/password combinations for. To its credit, Firefox 4 has offered to alert me when compatible updates for the five incompatible items are available. I am not really unhappy with Firefox 4, just temporarily inconvenienced as I am sure that SiberSystems will soon develop an update for Roboform2Go that will be compatible with this new version of Firefox.

Then shouldn't RoboForm be in the dog pound? Seems silly to pin it on Firefox. Its an add-on for Firefox, it's their job to update it not Mozilla.

Much as we love Mozilla, they ARE the ones who belong here, the reasoning is that although they give us great apps, and support them wholly, etc., they push it all out to us BEFORE ensuring that the vast majority of previously-compatible apps and add-ons are going to then be compatible with the new releases.

I find it very annoying myself, however, it's not just them, Microsoft, Google, Apple, etc. all do this, and it doesn't make any sense for any of them. You'd think that at least one of them would try to be different, a leader, but no, they're stupid and lazy.

You expect them to maintain compatibility with older versions?

Did you learn nothing from the Win3.1 / Win95 / Win98 / WinME monstrosity?

Or do you expect them to test a new product against all of the available 3rd party apps? Because that is even more asinine. Software development just doesn't (can't) work that way.

So long as a company maintains compatibility within its products, I'm happy .. that's as much as can be expected of them.

It allows you to set incompatible addons as compatible and then use them.

Yeah, what the above two said. Mozilla can't just sit around and wait for addon developers to update their stuff forever, because it will never happen. They move at their own pace, and addon developers have to keep up.

Thanks for showing this, I just noticed this featured add-on when I updated yesterday, could be a nice helper if it's executed properly.

I've run into a few bugs in firefox 4 myself
mostly the fact that it tends to hang up on java heavy pages

my school has an online web class platform called blackboard CE 6
and ever since I upgraded firefox to 4 its been a dog to run, if at all. Honestly
its got a 50/50 fail rate from the start, just refused to open at all.

Yes, my java is up to date and properly installed. Just so you know, I have already tried to get java to play nice with it, but apparently its a known issue.

Wow I had never notices that problem. Probably because I don't have the firefox java plugin or even the JRE.
