Got Mafia 2 yesterday for 30 bucks on sale.

My wife installed it while I was at work today. She tells me it automatically went through steam. I dont want to run it through steam.

Anyone know how to fix this?

You have to use steam for a lot of games nowadays...

If you mean you have to download it via steam I don't know, had the same problem tbh.

Steam acts as a DRM so as far as I know you can't run it without Steam on if it was purchased through Steam.

It wasnt purchased through steam.

It was purchased in a store, disk etc.

The only thing I have found is playing the game in offline mode of steam. Hope that works in case one of these days I temporarily dont have internet.

As long as the game is fully installed and verified, you should have no troubles playing offline.

you could also try running the .exe directly from the disk.

When I explore the disk, I dont see a exe.

But if I can run steam in offline mode, that pretty much solves any problem I had.

Still I think its bullshit that I need an extra program to play Mafia 2.

Think it's bullshit all you want, but to be honest and I'm sure you know it's not going to help. They will continue to make games that way because that's their way for DRM. I think it was Assassin's Creed2? that you had to have an online connection on order for the game to even load up to play.

There's really no way around it I don't think anyway. I mean realistically yeah we could just talk with our wallets and not buy the games they are putting out, but then all they will do is devote all of their time to the consoles which most game companies are doing anyways. It's a lose/lose.

You know this prolly better than I do, but there are ways around the Steam if were talking about someone cracking a game.

I would love to see a Gamestop that was instead a PCStop. Instead of console stuff everywhere, it could be custom PCs, modded pcs, everything PC Gaming and PC.
I see it in my head :D so clearly

If something like that was around, PC Gaming could get more support.

Probably since I'm a few semesters out from my bachelor's in computer forensics, but we don't talk about that kind of stuff here. I did my share of stuff back in the day, now I do it for projects and soon to bust criminals.

What do you think of my Retail Pc and PC Game store idea?

I dont think it would ever happen but eh who knows. I think the companies who could benefit most should all chip in to make it happen. A joint partnership if you will.

If I was a decent artist I would draw it up.

That would actually be pretty sweet. The only problem I see with it is that consoles are just so much easier to own for the everyday person. I mean you get one console and for the next 4 or 5 years (longer if you don't hop onto the next gen console right way) play every single new game that comes out. No need to upgrade any hardware just to play the latest and greatest games. Nowadays thats almost impossible in a PC environment. You can do it, but your graphics or some part of the game will suffer because of hardware.

In my perfect dream of the Ultimate Pc Store, wouldnt only be PC Gaming, but modded pcs, software for all types of pc owners(casual, work, gamers).

And while nothing would making pc's as competitive as consoles, at least if there was some store out there, it would be in the public eye more.
