maybe i'm missing something here, i dont know.

i have a 8800gts that runs everything i throw at it fine . i just upgraded it to a gtx465 hoping that a newer gpu would net me greater frames.

i used a becchmark program , aquamark, on both cards ...and what i found really surprised me .

the 8800 kicked the 465's ass . the 8800 scored 152,994 and the 465 scored 28,979 . i dont get it .

i just used the step up program to move from the gtx465 to the gtx560i fsb , i'll have to run that against the 8800 and see what happens .

Did you uninstall drivers, use driver sweeper to get the last of the old, and then install new ones when you installed the 460?

What are the rest of your specs? That 465 should destroy the 8800. There is something else wrong with your system.

all drivers are the updated . everything seems to be working the way it should . i use this box only for gaming , no bsod or any other blatant error . the 8800 is not oc'd . this card screams and runs all games i throw at it on high or better . i have cod black ops, moh, dead space2,battlefield bad company2 .

I usually don't like blaming the power supply, but I think you may be overloading that 550W powersupply. Try removing the secondary and tertiary hard drives, removing two sticks of RAM, removing the TV tuner and the sound card, the and putting the CPU clock back to stock. Then run the benchmarks. Also if you have a Kill-a-Watt you can measure your PSU's load at the wall. The new graphics card may just be pulling too much power for it all to handle.

Also make sure you have all the power plugs into the videocard. The new one may require more power connections then the previous card.

Contact support with the manufacturer of the 465, you must have a borked card. Hopefully it's EVGA, they really have great customer support. But contact whoever it is.

the card was from evga. i pulled a trade-up to a gtx560i fsb , should have it in a wek or so now .

i did think about the psu as a potential culprit but it is all i have for now .
evga does say that the minimum psu required for the 460 was 500watt.........

the 460 did have 2 six pin powers that i did have hooked up .

when th 560i gets here i'll see how that does with the system as is , then if i need to i will follow your direction
and remove all non-essential from the power loop . i want to get a larger psu , but for now i have to use what i have.

thanks for all the responses

i had a thought .

i do have another 480 psu .

can i hook the 480 inline with the 550 and use the 550 just for the grafix card and use the 480 for the other stuff?

i do know that it is possible to add i psu . i need to jump a couple pins on the 480's 24 pin coonector, unless i'm completly off base .

I was on the same boat as you were as far as this question goes. You can't just hook up the second PSU to the main one without doing some working with the wires. Unless you really want to, but I wouldn't do it my first time on a PC of this high a value. I doubt you're taxing your current PSU anyways.

well i got the 560ti from the step up with evga. i ran a benchmark againt the 8800gts and it was better than the 465 , but still much less than the 8800 .

evga says the psu should have 12v@30amp . my psu has 12v@25amp , and with all i have running i can see there being a power deficit at the card .

this weekend i am going to cut all non essential power components out of the system and see how that works out .

if the psu is the prob, then i'll go get a corsaire 850 i was looking at on newegg.

i remember at some point reading in a maxpc mag that you can , not add inline persay, but add another power supply to your pc . you need to jump 2 pins on the second psu's 20-24 pin mb connector so that it will work .

you will now have 2 power cords that need to be pluged in , but it may be an alternitive to buying another psu if you have an old 1 laying around .

i plan on getting a cosaire 850 watt soon cause i think i am going to build an i7 box .

i dont know if i should use it as my main box and use it for game and dvr ,or if i should dedicate the new box to games and use this one for dvr and surfing .

my "box", is my xbox . as much as i can go ($$$) i want to keep it as fast as i can to get te best out of it .
