Allright, my classmates in my Computer Engineering course play Age Of Empires when they have spare time. I figured i would just install CS 1.6 on some of the computers, but the question is, how? Which torrent of the game should i download. Went to isohunt.com , there are plenty versions, dont know which one.

They have to protect themselves from piracy somehow. Also it introduces you to the world of Steam if you have never been there, which is a good business move on their part. Personally I don't like steam but have a couple of games that will only play if steam is present on my system. For some reason I can't run Crossfire when running Steam Games anymore, Nvidia must have them in there pocket....

What's the point of protecting a game you've released for free ????

Why do you think it is free? In this case, the cost is using Steam .. as has already been pointed out, by making you use Steam, you become acquainted with the service and may be induced to buy a game or three.

I got that part, but he said it like once you release something for free you still gotta protect from pirates.

They aren't giving the game to you to own, you can just play it through Steam for free.

Sort of... but not really. I mean if the game is free there is no real incentive to pirate. There isn't anything to protect.

IMO, anti-piracy tactics are a losing battle anyway.
