I am looking to replace a Asus 4850 with a better card. something reasonably priced(best bang for the buck). I am leaning towards Nvidia because I have had overheating problems with this card as of late (even after cleaning it out, new thermal paste etc) but if ATI has the better card for what I am looking for, thats fine too.

I play on a Samsung Widescreen LCD

My OS is a Vista 64bit

Gaming is the only thing I use the card for. Single player RPGs like Fallout 3, Two worlds 2 etc.

Thanks for the help.

250 or less

At the moment, for ATI I am looking at the 5870 - 6950

Nvidia 470-560

At $250 and 1680x1050 it's kind of up in the air.

Although if you want to use the card for video encoding and other high performance tasks I would say the 560 Ti is your best bet.

For a little bit over 250, I went with AMD 6950. Its $275 but I got $20 rebate on Amazon.

I was gonna go with Nvidia 560Ti but after seeing how you can turn the card to 6970 with a simple bios flash, I know I had to got with AMD. You can't beat a $250 (with Rebate) card turning itself into $350.
