Maximum PC

Hello maximum pc, if i am correct i have come to the right forums to express my concerns over a problem that i and im sure many others in the world have. Also hopefully you fine people at maximum pc will be able to offer a bit of insight to said problem.

What about us is the title of this post because of one simple reason. What about us? And by that i am refering to the amazing growth that 3d movie technology has made in the last few years. Thanks to avatar you cannot look at a showings paper without seeing some form of 3d attraction.

Now how does this tie into a problem? well simply put i am blind in one eye. and as such i will never be able to see a movie in 3d. As a child i remember trying to see the 3d image in those strange books that would have a totally abstract page full of stuff that would then turn out to be a three dimensional image. when all the kids said that they could see the image. I was the one who could not.

Now up until avatar this never really bothered me much. But growing into a tech savvy adult and then finding out that you will never be able to fully apreciate one of the most revolutionary films of all times kind of hits a soft spot. And so i began to watch over time as everything slowly became 3d.

I will not bore you with details you already know but needless to say things are shaping up to be a real 3d fest and people like myself who cannot see in 3d will be left out to dry.

What will we do when television,movies and games are all made in 3d?

what will we do when you cannot buy a tv that is not glassless 3d. and as such would be amazingly blurry for someone with only one eye.

So maximum pc that is my question. what will happen to us?

We will all be long gone before television, games and other media goes exclusively 3D. Keep in mind many people are still on Analog NTSC for cable, not even digital. Many people still have old CRT TV's and not HDTV's. CRT TV's are getting less common, but they are still out there, especially in rural places.

Not to mention, it will be a very long time until we get TV's that don't need the special glasses, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Harsh reality: like anyone who has a handicap, you'll miss out. Stereoscopic vision is required for 3D ... even in real life. Lacking depth perception, I'm sure that you already know this.

Long gone? There are people still alive who were born before television was invented. Digital media is only a couple of decades old.

Technological change is picking up speed .. not slowing down. I have to disagree with you on this one, bro. Digital is becoming a standard far more quickly than I'd have anticipated.

Finally, a capitalist market survives by making consumers purchase things. The technology will be deprecated within a decade, at most, because it is in the interest of the market to do so.



The glasses aren't the issue. People lacking vision in one eye have no depth-perception. Their day-to-day existence is not viewed in 3D. Any image which tricks a 2D surface into displaying a 3D image, whether it uses glasses or not, is necessarily going to appear distorted to someone without depth-perception.

3D is where the industry is going, mostly because they can sell a bunch of new hardware: 120Hz HDTVs, shutter glasses, 3D Blu-ray players, etc. It's just what the market is doing, and some of it is really cool.

That said, I think it's stupid and I hate it. So cyclopses, the blind-in-one-eye, the nearly-blind-without-correction (me), and general curmudgeons can rest assured that at least one MPC editor is a 3D-hating grump. And I think enough of the general public can't see or doesn't like 3D that 2D screens will be available for the forseeable future.

Also, 3D movies/TV sucks anyways. TBH, you're not missing anything. It doesn't actually help for any objects that aren't supposed to closer to you than the screen is... otherwise, perspective works better for depth perception after that.
