Can someone recommend me a 'real' free video editor. Ive searched for one and I keep finding ones that have 30 day trials or limited functinality. Usually you dont know if they're trials until you install the software. All Im interested in doing cutting out certain parts of video and leaving the rest. I found AVS video editor, but it puts a watermark in the middle of the video unless you buy it. Thanks.

For an extremely primitive yet useful editor I recommend:

SolveigMM AVI Trimmer -– A totally free .avi editor that allows you to *Save* the parts you want while discarding the parts you don’t. Want to save more than one scene? No worries… run it as many times as you like on the original file. SolveigMM AVI Trimmer doesn’t change the original file, it saves changes to a new file/folder you designate. Once you have the multiple files saved, just use Windows Movie Maker to process them all together.

Original file not in .avi format? Again, no worries. Just use:

Format Factory -– Another totally free program that will convert ANY video format to .avi.

If I read your post correctly, that should help!

Edit: Now that I think about it, Windows Movie Maker has some of the same capabilities! :|

For basic stuff Windows Movie Maker is hard to beat since it's already installed if you have a Premium or higher version of Windows.

If you don't there's also Pinnacle's free video editor calledVideo Spin.

You bring up a good point, Satch. When I was first introduced to WMM, I was using Windows ME -– OEM (iirc, the alternative was ‘Upgrade’).

From that point I had always thought WMM was a staple like Notepad.

After much research I have found it to be an upgrade item only available in Windows 7 Home Premium and above.

Nice catch!
