was the toolbar an optional part of the install? toolbars can usually be uninstalled and removed, and sometimes during the install you can choose not to install them...

i think the main OpenOffice website is http://www.openoffice.org/

from the bottom of their main page in tiny print.

"OpenOffice is developed and maintained by Oracle and it’s affiliates. OpenOffice.us.com is not directly affiliated with Oracle or Sun Microsystems."

You can get OpenOffice from openoffice.org without all the extra crap. Plus, that's the official site. Obviously it's not legit, because I've used OpenOffice on many installs, but only would download it from the actual website.

I would suggest doing a roll back on your system (if you can--just in case it installed any malware or spyware), and download a new copy from OpenOffice.org (that is the legit real website).

Oh, and I always do a custom install (on all the apps I install) just to make sure there is no toolbar or other stuff I don't want. For example, FoxIt Reader tries to install it's toolbar, which I never do when I install it, but you have to be careful during installs to install only what you want, because a lot of free apps these days try to install toolbars and freeware stuff that you probably don't need or want.

^^^ What he said

If you opt for a standard install the toolbar is installed with OO. Choose a custom install and uncheck the toolbar installation selection. It defaults to install which sucks. Never allow a standard install for any program. They get paid tons of money to sneak in a these stupid toolbar installations. That being said, if they get one past you you can disable it in Firefox by right clicking the menu bar and unchecking it, which will disable it but not uninstall it, or open control panel and uninstall it.

Never, never, never allow a standard install if a custom install is offered and then pay attention to any check boxes they try to slide past you.
