I'm trying to get a Lynksys wireless -G router to work with Vista. I can get into the setup page and was able to update the firmware. The computer can't get online with the internet run thru the modem and wired to the computer. I also tried the factory reset with no luck. Any ideas on what I'm missing? Besides shooting vista in the head....

What is the model and hardware version of your Linksys router?

If you are able to access the web interface of your router and were able to update the firmware to the latest revision, Vista is not the problem. How are you connected to the Internet (who is your ISP? Do you have to connect using a username and password (PPPoE) or do you have cable internet service?)

192.168.1.1 is the default IP
default user name: admin
default password: admin or just blank

- Connect one end of the eithernet cables to your computer
- Connect the other end to any port on the router 1 through 4
- Use a different eithernet cable: Connect one end to the modem
- Connect the other end to the WAN, Internet or Data Port

- open IE and enter in the ip info and password from above
- If using DSL set to PPoe and put in your user name and password.
- If using cable modem, set to dynamic and you should be all set
- The rest you can configure your wireless settings and security the way you like.
