Father only has a laptop to watch shows he downloads and he wants to watch them on his HDTV in his living room. His laptop has no DVI/HDMI outputs plus he doesn't want to mess with wires anyway.

I see on the Best Buy website USB devices that you can plug into your HDTV. Not sure which one he needs. What would be the best way for someone who watches his media on his laptop and wants to watch it on his HDTV. Thanks.

This would probably fare better in Multimedia Madhouse. So, moving it there.

Not the most elegant solution, but I've had great luck with IOGEAR products.

Keep in mind it has to be within a few feet, and nothing can be blocking it, but it sounds like you already realize that.

I've heard good reports on the Roku Box. Not only can it stream netflix to your tv, but it has Wireless N to stream from your PC to your tv. Also does hulu, vimeo, pandora, etc., and it's pretty cheap.

We got all the media we wanna watch already on our hard drives. Just want him to watch in on his HDTV instead of his laptop's 17" screen. No netflix, no other media services. He wants to watch a media file on his HDTV instead of his laptop.

I'd suggest ignoring the features that you don't think that you'll use (even if quite a few of them are for free services.) Doing that, one of the Roku boxes looks like it would fit your purposes quite well. And, they are pretty cheap - even the best-featured version is only $100.

Do you have a ps3 or xbox 360? I would setup the laptop as a media server, and stream to game consoles to watch videos.
