Specs Intel Q6600 Rev.G0 OCed 3.0GHz (Note on CPUZ under Specification says Intel core 2 quad q6600 @3.0 Ghz (ES) I know what the ES stands for but is it a good thing ? )
4GB DDR2 800 Mhz Kingston Hyper X
680I mobo Rev. A2
Zalman 9700
Corsair 850TX PSU

I didnt change any Voltages (set to auto) Is auto ok ?
I ran Prime 95 Benchmark it past... temps where fine
What test should I run for Stability ?

So far 10 mins in ( i know not very long) below is SS I had Cleared min/max during test min was much lower then what you see here.

/options/Benchmark

/torture test/ in place Large FFT's

When I ran Small FTT it went to about 80 C thats seems little to high for me ?

Auto is not ok and 80C is too hot. It's probably because auto is setting your voltage far too high. Find the recommended voltage range for your processor and set it to the lowest voltage that is still stable at your desired clock speed.

When Reading CPU temps what should I go by when using HWMonitor Temp Cpu or Temp Core 0 temp core 1 so on...
Also what test in Prime 95 is best to run ?

HWMonitor is not the best for reading CPU temps. Use Coretemp instead. You have a long way to go before your done OCing that proc but you also still need to learn a lot. Those things can go to about 2.4GHz on stock cooling but you need to learn the basics of OCing first.

My i7 with the nt version of that cpu cooler, and some tuniq tx2 at 3.5 only hits 75 C. What thermal paste are you using?

The paste that came with the cooler. Iam thinking of getting Corsair H70 But not sure how good it will fit into my case

How long has the current past been used for? It could have dried out, which is bad for thermals. Also, how much heat does a q6600 put out compared to a pentium d 840? Mine also kept a stock one at 45 C with the paste it comes with, under 100% load 24/7 for folding@home.

The Paste as been on for about a year Not sure how much heat compared to your Pentium D 840 but heres my spec sheet from Intel http://ark.Intel.com/Product.aspx?id=29765

No, something is wrong. The 9700 should be cooling the Q6600 far better than that. You should try removing the cooler, replacing the thermal paste, and being sure to replace it nice and tight. There should be no wiggle at all if you try to move the cooler once its seated. As for the best test to run, small FFTs is the best test if you just OC'ed the CPU, Blend is best if you OCed the RAM and the CPU. Try setting the voltage to a constant setting, see what that does for thermals.

I use Prime 95, but then that might fry this CPU if the temps can't get under control. I recommend the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler and Arctic Silver Thermal Paste.
I use both of these with awesome RESULTS (Last Post).
Is Arctic Silver anything like Arctic Cooling mx-3, anthrax???

I know it's a bit more expensive, but if it cools better, it's worth a look. :P

I thought of the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus in the new issue theres a better but more expensive cooler (Proimatech Armageddon) @93 with 2 fans almost the cost of the Corsair H70 @ 109 ish.

But they compared it to the CM hyper 212 with one and 2 fans attach . Now I know there both "Air Coolers" but the Price of it is almost the cost of the Water cool H70 so I would of like to have known how the Armageddon vs H70 would have went.

Arctic Silver 5 is VERY dated. there are much better pastes today, and that have MUCH less risk of frying your motherboard because the new pastes are not conductive.

 At that rate, I would consider getting the H70 too!

Good to know. At work, there is this nice Boistar AM2+ motherboard that someone brought in a few months before I started work and it has some thermal paste stuck in the pinholes in the CPU socket.

"Alas, poor Yorick, I knew him well Horatio...."

At least I can make modern art out of it - if I ever tear myself away from the motherboard testing bench, which is not likely to happen considering my backlog of boards in need of testing.

I Love my job. :P

Non-conductive paste is a crutch for people who can't apply it properly.

While AS5 might not be the best-of-the-best in thermal pastes, it is still a viable aftermarket option that exceeds the performance of factory materials. If someone is overheating with AS5 it is not a paste failure as much as the overclocker. It is true, that a better paste may allow an experienced OC'r to push his system that little bit further. However, blaming AS5 for not being good enough to handle a beginner's overclock is leading them in the wrong direction. 3-4 degrees average difference between AS5 and ICD are not going to make or break an amateur's overclock.

I have machines with ICD in them, and some that have had AS5 in them for 3+years. I have never caused, or experienced a short because of AS5. None of them have heat problems unless ambient case temps get too high.

Sorry miss type. I meant to say 3.4. 3.4 on stock cooling isnt safe but possible. Any of the Core2 chips are safe up to about 3GHz on there stock cooling. I ran an E6600 at 3.1 on stock cooling for a few years with 0 problems.
