The WL-330gE is $32.23 shipped (after $10 rebate) @ Newegg.
Btw, what's your definition of "cheap"? What are the minimum specs, wireless G or N?
A dd-wrt/tomato compatible router is a better solution imo, esp. when on sale. OTOH, it appears you've been down that road w/o success. The WL-330gE is nice, but the biggest problem I have with these "travel routers" is range. In an effort to maintain that small footprint, they often resort to a mediocre antenna solution. I’d definitely recommend having one for the road, but it’s not the kind of device I’d recommend for home use.
FWIW, the best routers for dd-wrt/tomato are ASUS because it’s actually quite difficult to brick them. They use a special recovery mode for firmware updates (e.g., WL-520GU, WL-520GC, WL-500GP V2, RT-N12). I’ve updated the firmware on all these models, many times, and helped numerous other ppl update theirs, and neither I nor they ever bricked one. When it comes to other models, it does get a bit more risky.
Heck, if you’re afraid of bricking one, just buy one off eBay w/ dd-wrt or tomato already installed.
