This past months issue of max PC had a cooler that beat out the cooler master hyper 212+.
Would someone mind giving me the make/model of that cooler?
The best of the best hasn't been updated yet, and i tossed that issue out already.
Thanks!

Prolimatech Armageddon.
What are you planning on using this cooler for?

Thanks I appreciate it!
It will be used for an i7 950 with some overclocking of course.

Also a good question, what fans should the OP use with it?

You should consider the Corsair H50 if you're considering adding two fans to the Armageddon.

CM's new V6 is supposed to top the 212+ as well.

Well, that depends on who you ask then. The Prolimatech Armageddon is shown as being 4C HOTTER than the tried and true Megahalems at Benchmark reviews, and 2C HOTTER at Hardware Canucks. As I look further, there's not one review I find that place the Armageddon higher than the Megahalem. The only way I see it better is when two fans are placed on it and compare it to others with just one attached. That being said, the Armageddon is "good" based on it being more slim than the competition. Both beat out the H50 with one fan, but the H50 does quite well with a twin push/pull setup (the rad is a bit restrictive).

I'm trying out the V6, but with most air coolers I'm not too impressed for the price just to cool one part in a computer.

let us know about the v6. I currently have a pair of the GT model speced for the SR-2 folder I'm planning.

I have heard that the Thermalright Silver Arrow is supposed to be the best air cooler out there right now. Product Link

Hard to tell how it's going so far really. It's quiet up until fully loaded and both fans are spinning at max. Odd thing is that when spinning from idle to mid level, I really see no temp change. With PWM off and speed locked down to 50%, it'll fold (i7 920 @3.66Ghz) at 76C and 73C at 100%. This confuses me at the time being. I would run this thing at low speed (non folding) any day of the week though with it reporting 28C doing normal daily chores.

Might be the weather lately. It's been really nice out here (65-70F) and most of my past notes on other coolers have been in the Spring (80's). So far I feel it's better than the TRUE's and V8 as delivered, but still a shade behind the Megahalems. It's still on the large side IMO. I guess I was thinking that it'd be smaller than the V8, but that's what I get for assuming! Nothing to say that's concrete for a few more weeks, but so far...so good. MPC should test this in their temperature-friendly labs ;)

Eh guys... I'm running a 920@ 3.8 and change with a hyper 212 plus and IC7 diamond paste and it's performing quite well. While chewing on -smp work units at full load it's running at about 54 degrees in a HAF932. Not bad at all!

I'm also running a 980X in a HAFX case with a TRUE and IC7 at about 4.1 (still dorking with Bclock issues) and it's topping off at about 56 degrees while digesting heavy work units at 100%. Again, not bad.

Both are single fan configurations.

I'm wanting to double up the fans... but in doing so I want to have similar fans both pushing and pulling. I haven't looked into the coolermaster as much- perhaps they have fans available more easily. TR makes it pretty tough to get a hold of their FDB1600 fans that come stock with the heat sink. Frankly, call me silly but I haven't been able to find where I can buy the stock fan other than on a TRUE.

In my research, I've found that the noctua NFP12 was a fan of choice and in the reviews I've read it performed very, very well. This was, however, a couple years ago. Has anything better stepped in to take its place or is that still the better fan.

Keeping in mind I wanted to use an extra TRUE bracket, I wanted to stay within the 120x120x25 specs.

Thanks!

Eno

Sounds like your getting alot better performance out of your 212+ than me. I have AS5 and two fans on my ocd 920 @ 3.6 and i have temps of 75C. Im going to try some IC7 when I have a bit of free time but I really just want to try water cooling.

I wonder if our voltages are much different? Also my case is pretty kickass too. Foundling (silly phone autocorrect: Was supposed to be "going") the h50/70 route or building your own? I did a lot of research in here about the ic7 / 24 before committing to it but I'm glad I did. You know one other thing I found with the 212+ is that the canals between the heat pipes take up a lot more thermal paste. I discovered this during a proc swap. I added a little extra to accommodate that loss of product in the gaps. Might be worth a look?

If I were to do it all again I'd probably have got another TRUE.

I just bought 2 noctua fans from ncix.com so I'll submit my feedback when I get them installed!

Im think of going custom since it just looks cool. :D
On the i7 i didnt have to bump the voltages much at all compared to my other model so I dont know haha. I think I might try some different methods when I put the ic7 on. i tried switching between one fan and two and I only really gained a few C with two fans. :(

First time I applied the normal "pea" sized quantity I found I barely covered half the core... My second application was more generous and got things covered better. I don't want to say the difference was 10 degrees... but it was pretty close.

I thought I was putting too much on and first, or was using the wrong application method... Man i need some more free time!

Temps are relative. Eno's 54C could be someone elses 74C. The change in temp is linear though. Like, "OEM was 64C and HS/F xxx-xx was 54C with the same load and ambient".

A pea is actually huge btw...

you should read the review that Armageddon did in fact beat the hyper 212+ (by 4C...meh) but it is $65.99 at newegg sans any fans (so plus (well as much as you feel on spending on 1 or 2 120 or 140mm fans)

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/review ... don_review

I may be a cheap bastard but for the money /performance i'd take the 212+ anyday personally ...i mean when it is all said and done it's still going to be air cooled :D
