This really isn't a complaint but it could have been.

I just ordered something from Newegg Canada and it came with free shipping via UPS Canada. There was an option for faster delivery which would have cost about $20.

I didn't take the faster delivery and I'm glad I didn't. I placed the order yesterday and after checking the status on UPS's website it says that it's out for delivery. So I should get it later this afternoon.

I wonder how much faster it would have gotten here if I paid the extra $20? :?

90%+ of the items I order from Newegg are shipped from their warehouse in Tennessee so it does me no good to go for anything other than basic shipping. The only time it has ever taken more than 1 day to receive the item, other than ordering on Friday, is if UPS is really busy.

I do wish that there was a way to see where your items are shipping from when ordering though. There have been times I've had an item shipped from CA or NJ, and that will usually eat up the three day delivery.

Shipping is a tough thing to choose.

The cheaper shipping option you chose was not guaranteed to arrive at your place today. The more expensive option was probably guaranteed (or as close to it). Much like 3 day shipping versus 2 day shipping. UPS says for 3 day shipping they will get the product to you in up to three business days, it could be shorter, but won't be longer. 2 day shipping is the same, but they mention it will be there in up to 2 business days.

I wouldn't call this a complaint. You either pay more for shipping to get the item faster or you don't. In your case, you didn't want the item faster so you didn't pay more. Would the other shipping option have been faster? Who knows, but I'm guessing it would have a better chance of being delivered earlier than the free shipping method.

However, it all depends on where it ships from as well.

I'm not complaining about the speed but rather that there was no way to know that spending the extra $20 would have been useless.

Don't get me wrong I was expecting it to take a couple of days so this is a plus.

I know the feeling. I wish there was an accurate estimate of when it would be delivered.

I just ordered a $6 cable from Newegg for $28 after overnight shipping and rush processing. Would have been nice to know if I could have opted for 2-day shipping and rush processing and it get here at the same time rather than going for overnight.

I sent newegg a ranting e-mail about the handling of 'Rush Processing' ($2.99) and overnight shipping ($29.99) on a $30 PS/2 to USB cable adapter we needed at the Colorado Cafe. This was two weeks ago.

It sat in my 'Charged' queue for 4 days! Once it hit 'shipping,' it did come overnight.

I ripped them a new asshole about it, and they credited my card all processing and shipping.

So, one thumb down, and one thumb up. ;)

Edit: I wish they allowed you to go to the distro center and pick it up yourself - I'm less than an hour away from Edison, NJ - though 42 miles one way with my pick-up getting 15MPG gets costly.... ;)

On a totally humourous note...

I stepped out for no more that an hour and a half and wouldn't you know it the UPS guy came while I was out. Now I have to wait until tomorrow for the second attempt.

It still ends up being faster than I was expecting so I can't complain.

I would think this is more of a UPS thing.. some shipping companies have a web api which can calculate shipping times while others do not. We stopped using UPS for this very reason (amongst others).

UPS has shipping calculators and their tracking is as close to live as you can get (at least here in the states). I can sign for a package and it's shown online as delivered within the minute. The only waiting game I play with them is "On Truck For Delivery", but they're always at the house between 4 and 5pm.

Oh awesome! Back when we checked it was still "a twinkle in their eye" - in Canada anyway.

I wish the egg would go back to FedEx If I order 3 day with UPS it will sit a day or two and then more to get on time. FedEX just moves it period. Much faster.
And I am talking about the standard 3 day shipping. I know that you can order it FedEx if you want. But for extra $$$
