Does anyone know if it is possible to do that?
I have a two year old F8Sn with a Core 2 Duo T9300 CPU, is it possible to replace it with a Core 2 Quad, QX9300 for instance?
If possible, is the installation difficult?
Thank you.

That is a notebook, so it requires another notebook CPU. The Q series are desktop CPUs and are not appropriate for notebook applications.

Some notebooks allow the CPU to be replaced .. some have the CPUs fixed to the mainboard. In either case, the replacement of the CPU is non-trivial and should only be attempted by someone who knows what they are doing.

It's an ASUS, so most likely you can. However, for a mobile quad you would probably need a newer motherboard or a BIOS upgrade. Very rarely will ASUS give out a BIOS update with additional CPU support. So the most you can upgrade to would probably be a T9500 (2.60 Ghz).

As for replacing a CPU, its not too bad unless you have to remove the whole chassis then its just not worth it. Usually, its just removing the heatsink, turn the screw that latches it down and replace.

Edit: Actually, if you can find it you could stick a Core 2 Extreme Mobile Processor X9000 (2.8 Ghz) in it. Ramp up the multiplier and you can get 3Ghz plus.

If it's going from T9300 to T9900 probably isn't much of a difference to make the upgrade worthwhile.
I was hoping I could get a quad core CPU upgrade to match the ViDock thing I just ordered.
Thanks for the advice.

There is a mobile core 2 quad qx9300. It runs at 2.5 ghz and needs a big HSF. It has a 45w tdp, 10w higher than the T9300.

The question is not whether it exists .. the question is whether the mainboard in that laptop can support it and, if not, whether there exists a BIOS upgrade that will support it.

Well, yes. My primary concern at this moment is whether the upgrade is possible, then I can consider upgrade options.
