What? The CPU alone is worth $800, used.

If you sold each component used on Ebay, you could expect at least $3000. Buying new would be closer to $4000

Win7 U: $100 (a lot more if its a retail copy)

I assume parts drop by 50%, not the 20% you are using.

I agree with the Tedster math! All parts that are used will get a 50% cut from the "new" price unless it is in very high demand and some one wants it bad enough.

Which applies to almost all of those parts. Seriously, would you rather have new $150 G.Skill 1600MHz memory, or 2000MHz Dominators (with lower latency) for the same price? $300 new AX1200... or $200 2 month old AX1200? $380 R3E... or barely used $225 R3E? You have to be mad to think those parts are only worth $1500.

I don't think your -50% rule applies to parts that are less than 6 months old either. Put all those components on a For Sale/For Trade section on any hardware enthusiast forum, at the prices I listed they would all be gone in 2 weeks or less - and people on Ebay know even less.

And fyi, I had a QX6700, sold it about a year later for something like $50 less than I paid new. Just sayin'... you can't use your rubber stamp on everything.

First, let me say this is not the place for this challenge, I understand what you mean and what you are saying. The replies that are posted in this area are opinions and experience not hard fact.
SO, IMO the "rubber stamp" rule you are refering to is a rule of thumb because once something has been labeled "used" most people feel that half price is the going rate.
To quote a portion of my last post:
This rule of thumb is true a lot thus is why it was said.
If you disagree that is fine you are entitled to your view but take a look around not just this forum but others. Also think about this like a car, once "used" the price drops off significantly even if its 3 months old! If you sell it to a dealer you could get one price. If you sell it to another person privately you could stand to make more on the deal. Everything can change and all transactions are different.

I don't see where one gets "most people" from their own opinion. I could see it if multiple people had posted agreeably to you, however that hasn't happened. And no, once one buys something, that does most certainly NOT drop it's value by 50%, that's absurd.

Here is MY opinion so that we can go forward from here:
1) I put the parts together new on the egg and come it came out to $4,262.63 USD
2) The parts listed can be vary different in pricing when new an example, GTX480 can be 419.99 - 649.99. It all depends on the flavor.
3)Since the model numbers where not given I will assume middle of the road choices where applicable.
4) The used price list:
A) MOBO: $200
B) CPU: $750
C) RAM: $150
D) GPUs: $700
E) PSU: $250
F) Case: $200
G) HDD: $50
F) SSD: $180
G) 212 COOLER: $15
H) BD BURNER: $100
I) WIN 7 ULT. N/A
Total: $2595 USD

When going by that formula, I can see where you're going. It definitely helps a lot when you know exact parts, numbers, etc. I had someone try telling me that my C2Q Q9550, still in package, unopened, unused, just 3 months after i got it, was worth only half of what I paid for it, just cuz it was a few months old. That was a retarded guesstimate, lol. A lot of times, I also base mine off of ebay and craigslist.
