I am looking for a video camera that can do high quality video at 60p (Frames Per Second).

720p would be fine but 1080p would be even better and yes I do realize that 1080p would probably only be playable on a computer. At the same time I do not want to compromise the overall quality just looking for a target resolution. I want the best picture quality possible with a 60 FPS option as the motion is going to be extremely important. I am not looking for uber pro gear just something consumerish that is < $2000 and of course the cheaper the better.

I do mean REAL frames NOT just fields!

Does anything like this exist?

Any suggestions for a particular product?

I saw this post http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/sony_a560_dslr_does_full_hd_video_650

and it got me to thinking but I think this info tells me that this particular camera will not do what I want.

• AVCHD:
• 1920 x 1080, 59.94i (from 29.97fps sensor output)
• Motion JPEG:
• 1440 x 1080, 29.97p or 25p, depending on region
• 640 x 480, 29.94 fps

Are you wanting to shoot fast action video?

You do know that normal 1080p video is 30 fps, right? The only reason 1080i is 60 fps is due to the interlaced fields.

I'm a big fan of the Kodak PlaySport. I used the Kodak Zi8 prior, and it's aspect in HD is fake compared to the Playsport's. The PlaySport, besides being waterproof to a few meters, has real 60FPS 720i and true 30fps 1080i. And when I was shopping for another cam, the Playsport and Zi8 were only $15 apart. There's also (or was) a good youtube showing the PlaySport's true aspect vs. the Zi8's faked field. (I lost it, or I'd link it...perhaps I'll run across it again)

Now, you can get really technical and dig into image quality but then you're well over $350 and it's going to be held up like an AT-4. I'm suggesting budget pocket cams. If it's for everyday/weekly usage, these are fine. But to capture a kid's graduation; it just won't do IMO. I can get away with a LOT of great captures from the pocket cams, but the stuff I really want to hold forever in digital is in a $1,800 Panasonic typical 'corder. To put it in perspective: I capture motorcycle rides, rare/unknown fish underwater, looks around the house, and typical "stuff" with the pocket. But they don't adjust to light well, not enough settings, and that's when you step into a higher end camera.

Most new DSLR's do GREAT movies in HD, as long as allow you the settings and lens choice. House had an episode filmed off one, and it looked just as good as any other episode. But I wouldn't ever lug around that equipment every day hoping to catch the "little" stuff.

My tiny little GoPro HD HERO does 720p at 60fps.
